UW Recycling provides MiniMax, the desk-side mini waste bin and recycling bin set. The bins are self-service and help to minimize waste and maximize recycling through increased awareness about recycling and personal responsibility for waste generation. And because the mini waste bins are unlined, the number of plastic liner bags going to the landfill is significantly reduced. To reach the goal of 70% waste diversion by 2020, all new, renovated, and interested buildings have MiniMax.

The UW Moving & Surplus office is located in the Plant Services Building and has a staff of 20 individuals. Their goal at reducing waste is seen in their Silver Green Certification. They excelled in waste reduction and sustainable purchasing.

The Marquardt Lab is a 2 person lab that studies Applied Optical Sensing and Chemometrics within the Applied Physics Department. They received a Silver Certification due to their awareness in waste reduction and sustainable travel.

Department of Applied Mathematics

The Department of Applied Mathematics is a Gold ranked office for their sustainability practices. They use reusable whiteboard rags that are washed and returned to the office, have a department umbrella program to encourage walking, and utilize reusable silverware as well as compostable cups.
